On the Move focuses on photography in relation with graphic design. The Stedelijk Museum invited artists in the Netherlands to submit work in which they strive to find new, playful, critical and challenging ways of storytelling. The jury selected 28 projects from among 471 submissions.
The exhibition presents the myriad modes of presentation that artists and photographers can choose groom today when telling their stories. The selected projects vary from photographic prints to audiovisual installations, from photobooks to magazines, and from apps to websites. Some makers opt for new forms of reportage or serial publications, while others concentrate on a single image.
Today, the intensive collaboration between photographer and graphic designer appears to be enjoying a revival. Both parties have equal input in their joint projects, making radical choices that add extra dimension and meaning to the work. Moreover, journalists, produces and web developers have also played a greater role in several large-scale multimedia projects created in recent years.
After the exhibition the Stedelijk has acquired the installation.
